dvd rom help

My problem is not to long ago i had to wipe my computer to get rid of a nasty bug , and when i reinstalled usung the discs provided when i bought the computer it all came back except my dvd rom , when i click in the device manager it shows it installed but nothing happens .it is like they are not talking to each other ,i have tried all i know without going to the sony website , i could really use the help .

i reinstalled windows xp into the computer .

That isn't enough to watch DVDs. You need a program installed. What did you use before you reinstalled XP?

We had used power dvd program ,
