DVD recorder ... newbie

Nov 2, 2006 10:11AM PST

I?m a newbie, and I?m thinking of buying a DVD recorder, the kind that hooks up to my TV (not to my computer).

DVD recorder ? What I really want is to be able to take an episode of ?Seinfeld? or whatever, already stored on DVR or on VHS, and when I transfer it to the DVD, I?ll be removing the commercials. So I?ll be pausing and re-starting the DVD recorder. Is that possible with a DVD recorder? Or is it only possible if you buy one that costs over $500 or something?

Also, blank DVD?s ? how much can I store on one disc? 90 minutes? 6 hours? "It depends"? And if I want to do my ?transferring to DVD while removing commercials? thing, does that mean I'm going to need a blank DVD that costs $20 each or something?

And what about blank DVD-RW discs? Can I record a "Seinfeld" plus a "Boston Legal," and later remove the "Boston Legal" with a "CSI"?

Thanks in advance.
