DVD Recorder help

Feb 4, 2009 7:16AM PST

I am trying to conect the following:PANASONIC DMR-EZ48VK DVD / VHS Recorder EZ485VK~ PLAYER
For some reason I can't get the digital (Comcast) signal to pass through the recorder. The connections are all correct. It has a built-in tuner.
I can get a cable conncection which works off the traditional channel 3(as if I connected direct to the tv) but I can't get a digital cable signal (No Video 1, 2, 3 or 4). It actually messed up my digital when I disconnected it.
Panasonic has been no help.
Any ideas? or should i just get Comcast to come in?

That's right.

The signal is "macrovisioned" to thwart recording. No pass through but a direct connection should work.

No good

I had tried that already. I get a signal but it plays through the TV, not the cable box. (Cable connected direct to DVD recorder;dvd recorder out to the cable box; cable box out to the tv; tv AV connectiond to dvd recorder; DVD recorder AV connections to cable box.) Turn on the tv and get channel 3 only and no video 1, etc. Remote changes channel through the tv not the cable box. Not getting digital. So I can't even set up the dvd recorder as it doesn't respond to me trying to set it up.
I'm really confused and tried all I can think.

I wonder.

There are a few cable co's that went ALL DIGITAL and you can't connect those to the TV inputs.

You will have to ask your local cable co if they require "the box."

comcast and ez48
Jun 19, 2009 11:15AM PDT

my dad was debating about taking the very basic comcast cable at $10 for the first year, which gives the old analog stations and a few more
no extras
but if he cannot record on the ez48, there would be no point
comcast did not know and avs forum said yes

any experience with this

But my DVR with DVDRW is still working fine here connected directly to the cable and only on the SD channels (natch!)
