dvd-r will not run on comp?

Hi for some reason dvd-r disks will not load anymore on my comp,the screen locks up and the only way to get it back is to eject the disk,I have recently installed XP Pro SP 2 on could this be something to do with it ,also have a Trogan horse in some files that I cannot get into ,that I cannot get rid of ? any help would be appreciated as not very good with this sort of thing,thanks Phil

Try a new DVD drive and also remove and reinstall the DVD player software.

Also worthy of updates (not from Microsoft!) are motherboard, video, audio drivers.

Hi thanks for the reply ,do you mean the whole dvd when you say drive ,and I forgot to mention that it does play original dvd disks .

In short, yes. The issue is simple. As the drives age you will find recorded media to become hard to read, unreadable and then it will fail.

Try a lens cleaner then another drive.

Thanks again ,well the comp is only a year old /drive but I have been doing allot of work on the house so I guess it could be said that dust and muck have beenaround for ages,,I will try a cleaner.thanks again for your time Phil

many systems have trouble reading -R disks that were recorded on another system. suggest you stick to +R
