Question

DVD player with Divx and .mp4 capabilities

Feb 29, 2016 2:58PM PST

Does anyone know of a DVD player that can play .mp4 and Divx (avi) files? It would be great if the player could play these files through a USB connection. Thanks in advance!

Amazon sells about a hundred of them

I'd focus on what Bob says though. Much better solutions exist. Skip divx too if possible. Too quirky IME.

Thanks, but I was hoping for personal recommendations like Bob gave, from someone with personal experiences with the devices.

Answer
The problem is mp4 and Divx have so many versions.

While many can play some, none will play all mp4 and Divx or avi files.

AVI is worse in that it's a container and not a definer of the encoding.

I was not happy with many players so I went out and got the WDTV Live. I found it worked but a kludge. Now I'm using an Intel NUC and that plays them all.

Final solution. Intel NUC with Logitech K400 Plus for control. Runs a Linux.
