DVD player not working with Windows 10?

Jul 24, 2017 9:33AM PDT

Solution...download VLC media player and problem solved. Ever since my laptop has been updated with the Anniversary Update, my DVD player stopped working. I searched the interent to find a solution only to find none. There were so many suggestions of what to do, but none of the them worked. Then I read a suggestion and the person said he downloaded VLC media player app. So, I did and sure enough I can now play DVD's. It is great to have my laptop complete again...

I noted VLC and the CNET Cheapskate BluRay player software at https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/cnet-cheapskate-delivers-free-dvd-and-bluray-player-apps/

"Read https://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-watch-dvds-for-free-in-windows-10/ for how you can get your FREE DVD and BLURAY player software.

We all know about VLC Player (or should) but what about BluRay? VLC Player can play unprotected BluRay but to date I've yet to encounter one of those.

This is especially great news for Windows 10 owners.

Remember my nod to ninite.com for VLC Player and why I give that nod."

BluRay, eh?

Even though I don't have BluRay, I have read VLC was not compatible with BluRay. I guess now they are. That would be great news for those who have a BluRay player. Thank you for the link to Ninite.

Microsoft...

Even though they say then want to help Windows 10 users any way they can, they love to nickel and dime us to death. I can't believe they would go that far as to charge users $15 to use the DVD player. Let's just hope they don't block the usage of the VLC app.

To get into why this is.

We have to crack open a discussion on patents, countries and more.

To see where to start, can you reveal how or why VLC Player can play DVDs without running to the courtroom?

I wasn't referring to the legality of the app....

but rather Microsoft planting a code which will prohibit VLC to operate like they did with Lotus 1 2 3 years ago.where you can only use Excel.

That's news to me.

The VLC issue is simply the country of origin and never has been a Microsoft plot.

Also, I used 1-2-3 and Excel since what? The 1980's and never ran into any issue with running 123 or Excel. What is this issue?

Just to note that the last update did reset some associations to built in apps. This does cause trouble for new Windows users. That is, if I ask some users to check file associations they think I'm asking them an advanced Windows question.
