DVD player

Jun 13, 2005 2:24PM PDT

When I play a movie in my dvd player, it does o.k. for about the first hour of the movie and then the picture starts to "break up" and it finally freezes completely. When I remove the dvd from the player it seems to be very warm or hot. Is this normal? Does a dvd player have a cooling fan like a computer?
Is this a bad dvd player or a bad movie?

Bad player, failed fan or bad design.

Cut rate DVD players may have inferior heat management. Usually easy to resolve, but can cost more in a service shop than what the player cost.

Trapped heat

Also make sure that the DVD player isn't sitting on another component (like a receiver that generates a lot of heat) or tucked too tightly into a cabinet so it doesn't have space for the air to move.
