Hi,
I've not seen any mention of Arcsoft Showbiz DVD 2 either. Has anyone tried it? How would it rate?

You looking to buy or already got it?

I don't have showbiz2 but I do have showbiz1; I have tried it but not using it now. It's hard to rate something like this but version 1 isn't too bad.

Yes, looking to buy. Have tried it on a short trial, but I'm very inexperienced, and my computer is 5 years old, so I wasn't sure what I was doing. I'll need to upgrade quite a lot of stuff, like memory and processor at least, so I'm trying to get a better idea of other people's experiences.

When you purchase the dvd burner it usually comes with software/s. I would get the burner first and see what comes with it. It might be all you need. I personally have used many different program and I can't say whether one is better than other but they all seem to be slightly different.

What I used to use.

My old laptop was a 256MB P3-600 MHz and I did simple video edits with Ulead's software and Virtual Dub. DVD rendering was slow to overnight depending on content, but it did work.

Today I'd reccomend Sony Vegas on the PC and iMovie, iDVD, Final Cut Pro on the Mac.

Thanks Bob,
Really appreciate the advice. It's a big world I'm getting into, isn't it? I will be using a PC although the thought of getting a Mac is interesting too.

it's very simple to use. i can make a dvd in 30mins, but it takes a couple of hours to transcode the video and make the files (i have a slow computer). I have used any other DVD software but i find it a good deal (it came w/ my burner, so it was free)
