Hi
I have a Samsung DVD drive that opens and closes automatically. And sometimes remains open. I know for sure it is not the firmware or software but a mechanical problem. How do I go about fixing the issue?
Thanks

The usual I try is to remove the drive and use the canned air on the opened ODD (optical disc drive.) If I hook up power and it keeps doing that (no data connection) I recycle it and replace it.
I agree with the other posters. If you haven't yet, air blow it out. Possible dust stuck on a sensor or switch. Alas, typical mechanical problems aren't really fixable other than explained above. More than likely the track rail mechanism is broken or cracked and best solution overall is replace, because of no spare parts. Of course, you can play with it all you want if mechanical or blockage is found, attempt to repair.
If you replace, buy a decent brand and if so possible upgrade from a plain DVD-ROM to DVD-R/W or Blu-Ray.
