Question

DVD Drive not recognising plug and play

Mar 31, 2014 6:06AM PDT

Mothers day yesterday, and my wife gets a new CD which she asked me to put on her ipad, via itunes on my laptop.

I used to be able to do this using my LG External Super Multi DVD recorder (version GP08LU11), using a USB cable with a mini connect to the DVD player.

Sadly a while back I had to completely reinstall my laptop due to a major problem. I connected the DVD Player to my laptop, and it attempted to plug-and-play. It was successful on one bit but not the other.

Now it just whirrs when I put a cd in the player but does not recognise it. I cannot find the power lead (a small dc jack I beleive) but was told it could work without it. I searched for a driver on the internet but no luck.

Can anyone please help me out here to stop m wife having another moan.

Many thanks

It might work with a USB Y-cable (two connectors on the PC side, one for data, the other for power only), but if it's designed to use an external adapter, even that is not sure.

No Y USB connector

Sadly I do not have a Y connector, really need a dc jack if this is the reason this wont work, but not sure what I would be buying.

Thanks for your reply.

take both your laptop and the drive with you to the shop where you bought the drive and ask them what you need to make it work.

And it may be necessary in some cases.

I've seen front panel ports need it and laptops when on battery power. But heh, if you what to debate that, I have a tuba jingle ready.
