DVD Drive

Aug 3, 2004 10:26PM PDT

I'm looking to purchase a dvd drive for my computer so that I can watch films, and I'm just wondering how they work with regard to the dvd zones - will I be only able to watch dvds from only 1 zone or are they capable of playing dvds regardless of zone?

Thank you

I haven't tried DVDSHRINK on DVDs from other zones, but it can remove the zone limitation so this is a non-issue.

As it is, in stock form and as supplied, you can only watch the DVD Zone the drive is set for.

Thanks for your quick reply! I've just been reading about DVD SHRINK and am a little confused by it, it appears that it enables you to copy a DVD onto a single recordable disk. I only intend to purchase a DVD ROM drive so will be unable to record onto DVDs, will the use of this software enable me to watch DVDs from all zones? Are there any other (preferably free!) programs that can be used to allow me to watch DVDs from other zones?

Thanks again!

Answered it.

Didn't I answer that already?

In closing, due to the nature of DVDSHRINK, it's my choice to offer no support for it, but to note when I think it will answer the need.

As to not getting a DVD recorder, that's up to you. I lucked into a pair of DVD all format recorders for 41 bucks each (new). Since DVDROM drives can run that much, and you want all region playback, maybe you need to reassess your plans.

Addendum.

Again, it is my choice to not provide support for this software. But if you look again, you can see how to play another region DVD after using DVDSHRINK even if you didn't record it to a DVD.

Don't ask me how. Why? It shows you are not reading the websites. And again, I offer no support for this software.

I think I know what you'r asking about, If you can get a copy of "Power DVD" usually comes as a demo with PC Magazines like Maxium PC ( which also is a very good info Mag). Back to Power DVD, once you install it, it will detect a zone for you or you can select #1 for USA region. I think it will allow you to stay in that zone until you want to change it or re-insatall it. I used it so far and it has options of sizing screen etc.....

Zone changes are not unlimited.
