General discussion

dvd disc stops suddenly

Aug 29, 2005 1:22AM PDT

I have burnt a dvd+r disc with family photo's with the program Photodex. That went fine and I could see the result on my computer as well as on my dvd-player in my living room. When I gave the disc to a family member, it suddenly went wrong : the disc played for about 5 minutes, then stopped. When doing it again, it gave the same result.
I work with windows xp, the disc was from sony and undamaged.
What can be the reason of it ?

Not all DVD players like recorded media.

It is that simple. Try another player.

I did, with the same result : 5 minutes and on the very same moment it stopped again. So, the question remains : why did it go with one player and not with an other ?

That explained it.

The player that it didn't work with didn't like the recorded DVD. Try it on DVD-R next time, but it's been a big problem maker for homemade media. No cure is planned.

Another Possibility

I had a similar problem with a Lite-On DVD burner that I had purchased.

Long story short.....the firmware in the burner was the original firmware.....Version-1.

I went to the website of the manufacturer of the burner and found there has been 7 updates to the firmware.

I downloaded and installed the latest firmware.... problem fixed.

Dvd-r fully supported
Dvd+r is more suitable for console game disc backups
Dvd+rw suited to office type backup situations

Follow these three notes , and you wont go wrong
