General discussion

DVD copying

May 5, 2005 11:28PM PDT

I have a video tape of family gatherings and wanted to share that with other family members. So, I sent it off and had it changed to a DVD. Now I'm trying to copy it using my DVD+/-RW and CD-RW dual drives with Sonic Record Now. When I put the DVD into the DVD drive to copy it, it will go for a little while and then spit it out saying there was an error reading it. I've cleaned it and see nothing on it but it continues to do the same thing. Now what?
Thanks,
Pam

Your home video disc duplicator.

Look up DVDSHRINK on google.com. It will do this with ease.

Next, some DVD players will not play DVD-R media, some will not like DVD+R. To get around this I make one of each and test it. I never send out our promo DVDs on DVDRW since some .01% of the DVD players will handle rewritable media.

DVD Shrink didn't do it.

I downloaded DVD Shrink and it seemed to be working. Then it stopped and showed this error -- Failed to read file "D:\", then "cyclic reduncancy check". What in the world does that mean?

It means the source DVD was unreadable.

It's also why you can't play the disc.

Outs?

- Try another drive to read the disc.
- I'd try another machine.

In short, what's on that disc may not be around much longer.

Same issue.

It just means there is a bad spot on the source DVD. Try another copy.

It also appears you didn't read this thread.

CRC
May 18, 2005 6:00AM PDT

Cyclic Redundancy Check ( CRC )is a method of checking for errors by generating ''check'' words based on the data contant. If the content changes - error - the stored checksum disagrees with the read-generated checksum and '' file N.G. ''. There are error detecting-correcting codes but they chew up a lot of real-estate. Failed Optical Reader

Will your device read any type prewritten DVD/CD(+/-, R/RW)? Can you obtain the properies of the media you're trying to use?

I had a similiar problem with a Buslink Lite-On DVDRW. The device would start to read the media then errored. It wouldn't read any type of DVD or CD (+/-, R/RW). Contacted manufacturer, ran a quick test and determined the device (6-mths old) had failed. The manufacturer gladly relaced the DVDRW.

If your DVD will not read pre-written DVD/CD's, I would suggest contacting the manufacturer.

Good Luck.

Yes, it will.

It will read other DVDs. And it will play the DVD in question. It just won't copy it. What does that mean to you?

I downloaded the DVD Decrypter as suggested. It read something like 14% and then couldn't read any more. I'll have to call the guy who made the original and ask him to try it again. Thanks for your help.
