What's the best software for this? Now for the real question I came to ask, is any of this freeware? How about something I can use just once as a trial?

I didn't have much success with that one. I can't remember if it had adware or was just a demo, but CDBurnerXP finally stuck on my machines.

The problem that I ran into was I needed to convert a Windows Media (wmv) file into a DVD (and with out having to create a menu, such as with Roxio). The original file was an output from Microsoft's Photo Story 3 and I wanted to be able to play it back on a DVD in good quality. And previously I used Photo Story 2 that would output directly to a VCD. I ended up trying quite a few trial software applications and found that the AVS Video Convertor (found at www.avsmedia.com) did exactly what I needed and it also converts back and forth between a large variety of media formats, along with being able to capture from video hardware. I have been very pleased with the program, even at a price of $29.95.

Use DVD Shrink and just make sure you have nero installed. Download AnyDVD and if you like it buy it or get it any way you can. AnyDVD works in the background and all you need is DVDShrink. Don't listen to all those other Yahoos!!!

you right nero and anyDVD should be all you need that is if you got recode with your copy of nero. got mine with my sony DVD 710a and unless i dealing with scratched disks have no problems. as the full nero package will let you convert from different formats and work around errors in copying. the only thing i have is with recoding with errors.there is a work around but i lazy. if you don't wont to pay for the software then expect to have problems with them. the people who make anyDVD makes all you need but yes they wont paid. and yes it's worth it ,as updates are offten.

Hi all and thanks for all that replied. I have looked into Nero that I downloaded from their site but had no option from documents I read to do mpegs. The mpegs r of video klips of friends that sent to me. They are not commercial products that are copyrighted. I will go back to Nero's web site and see if they have different version that does address mpegs to allow burning to DVD. I don't mind buying the software if I know with certainity it will burn mpegs to a DVD. The easier the proces the nicer for me as i am so ignorant abouot this stuff.

Thank you very much for your recommendation. I have it to be easy to uese and even allowed a trial version d/l to sample/try first which was great. Thanks again for coming to my rescue and great solution to my frustrations.. Now I have to decide if I want to add a 3rd party DVD player to my XP platform to test the DVD or keeping running into other end of house to test on our player when not in use... ;=}}} Made me smile.. I was thinking of purchasing DVD Santa, so you recommend it? Have you had any problems with it. I wanted to use it with my minidv camcorder to make home movies.

Nothing is trouble free, you may want to keep looking.

There are lists for video\avi tools also. This is where I aquired all mine until I got some free with my dvd\cd burner.
