Very little. I use what media works best in my DVD player. My dad needs the + and my home unit likes the -. Go figure?

The only real difference you should care about is you can't use one in the other. So, if you need a certain burner, get that one. However, there are dual/multiple type burners now and it's really worth the extra cost to cover yourself as time goes by. The plain fact, the makers just haven't settled on a std. and ply various wares. See this website for a more detailed answer: http://www.cdrfaq.org
