DVD BURNER

how can i see if my dell windows vista computer can burn blank dvd-r DL 8.5gb blanks dvd's. i know i can already burn dvd-r 4.7gb 120min's movies

Dell support website, using your service tag# or S/N provide it and check to see what your specs are when it was build. If no mention of supporting 8.5gb DVD burning(dual-layer), then that's it. However, a s/w fix maybe found using DVD shrink or any similar s/w.

Of course, if you don't have dual-layer burner, then the fix is get an actual dual-layer DVD drive for best results. You will need to tweek or fiddle abit to make shrink work.

If you right click on CD-DVD drive under explore

and select Properties and then the Hardware tab, it should indicate the mfg's name and model number. From there you can check the mfg's site and determine it features/capabilities.
