voted to make it illegal to use "communism" and its derivatives in print, because Communism was such a bad thing that the word itself must share the characteristics of the ideology. S.I. Hayakawa wrote about this, as an example of people's misunderstanding of language and its uses. It's also an example of adult fear of the bogeyman under the bed, and of many cases of governmental attempts to co-opt words for their own uses.
It's actial meaning was, I dislike Communism, an entirely different thought.
