Question

Durable touch screens?

Apr 7, 2014 6:49AM PDT

I'm putting together a touch-screen terminal for a children's museum. This thing is going to need to endure years of small children coming and smacking it as hard as their tiny little hands can manage. They might also get all sorts of mess and bodily fluids on it, that's just how kids are.

What I'm wondering is, should I use a normal touch-screen monitor, or are there touch-screens that have been designed to be more durable? If so, is there any information out there about just how much more durable they are, and just what sort of abuse they can and cannot survive?

I've tried googling around for this, but either I'm not using the right key words, or this information isn't easily locatable on the web...

Commercial application devices

The typical home use is out the door with your needs. As already stated to you, look at used/new vendors of such devices, notably Philips and Planar models. These aren't cheap and tend to last as that's the purpose.

As always have replacements available. Used outlet sources could be a decen tarea to zero-in on what works for you if you're located in a major metro area, bound to be a service by you. POS resellers maybe a decent source as well sinc they use that setup.
