duplicate name exist on the network

Dear friends!
I have Dell dimension 4550
windows XP SP2
1GB ram,
60GB harddrive with three parts as c(10GB), d(20GB), e(30GB)
Pentium 4
active Norton systemworks
Inactive McAfee
and all nessory programs.

recently I installed Hawkings Hi-gain wireless G USB2.0 adapter (HWU54D) to get wireless network. It works fine. But at the start the error message appears as Windows system error A duplicate name exists on the network. then it goes by clicking OK. after some time suddenly the system stops and a blue screen appears and says that recently installed hardware/software should be removed and notify to windows. Also it says techincal informations as STOP: 0x40000080(0X8631D130, 0x8631D130, 0x86321E68,0x8054FE48, 0x00000002). After that I don?t have a choice. I have to shutdown the system & also my work will be lost. Also I uninstalled the components and reinstalled as per the directions. The problem persists.
Please help me to and advice me to safeguard my system and data.

Thanks in advance

1/2 solution.

I can evoke that message if I connect both my ethernet and my wifi on my laptop at the same time.

Fix? Don't do that. Pick one or the other.

Duplicate network names

In reply to: duplicate name exist on the network

You don't tell us anything about your network. What other computer systems and peripherals (router, print server, network disk, etc.) do you have on your network, and how are they connected? What are their assigned names?

The error message did not tell you to uninstall the new hardware and reinstall it, it told you to uninstall it, period.

Bob wasn't referring to two networks, but to two connections to one network. Your system has a built-in NIC; were you connected with this before installing wireless? Is it still connected to your network via CAT5 cable? If so, pull the plug.
