Dumping Windows Vista for XP?

Feb 13, 2009 11:41AM PST

The laptop that I purchased about a year ago came with Windows Vista. Since then, I've come to realize that it really is a hindrance, a pain, an overall nuisance of sorts.

Is it possible to dump the Vista Oper System and swap it for Windows XP, and not harm my laptop? I'm enrolling in a Live Webcast course, and the Vista system on my laptop could contain problems which could cause glitches when I take this live online class. The website had a feature which analysed my machine and the result was that the laptop's Vista system could pose various problems in my class participation.

Any helpful opinions are appreciated.

Dumping Vista for Win XP
Feb 15, 2009 7:09AM PST

Previously I had posted a thread about wanting the possibility of dumping Vista for Windows XP on my laptop. Well, I did leave out the make and model of laptop.

Here it is...
Gateway ML6721 Notebook
Processor: Intel Pentium Dual Core Mobile Processor T2310
1MB L2 Cache, 1.46GHz, 533 MHz FSB
Memory: 1GB DDR2 Dual Channel
Video: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
with up to 384MB of Dynamic Video Memory
Hard Drive: 160GB
Memory Card Reader: 5in1, xD-Picture Card, Secure Digital
Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, MultiMedia Card
Network Connectivity: 802.11b/g Wireless LAN
10/100 Mbps Ethernet LAN
56 K ITU V.92 ready Fax/Modem
Ports/Connectors: 4USB, 1VGA, 1 IEEE 1394
1 Headphone, 1 Microphone

In about a month I will be taking a Live Web Class for an application that I work with, so my interest is in being able to see a good live feed, as well as good sound.
The website at Oracle Univ did a quick analysis of my system and the feedback was that the Vista OS could pose some problems. I just want to be able to take this Live Webcast with no hitches. Will loading XP to my Gateway be better? if so, how can I go about getting the XP?
free downloads, or outright purchase?
Thanks again for any good advice..
