Dumb newie questions

Oct 8, 2010 8:57PM PDT

Hi everyone,
I'm new here and had a few questions I'm hoping you can help me with. I just bought the Sony DCR-DVD650 and am about to buy the mini disks it records on and am not sure what to buy - the R or RW? + or -?

I'm just a Mom who will use this camera entirely for video of the kids. I will be saving the disks as these will be our family home movies. I will not use this camera for still photos, only video. My thoughts are what is the point of getting a RW disk in my situation because when I'm done recording I don't want to record over it, I want to keep that video. Am I correct in thinking a regular R disk is the best bet for me and my needs?

Also - I want to be able to finish taping the kid's school play, take it out of the camera and play it in our DVD player. I don't want to have to do a lot of things (I'm not very tech savy nor do I have any time to do much of anything but record it and play it).

My other question - what is the difference between DVD-r and DVD+R and which would be the best fit for what I plan to use my camera for?

Thank you in advance for your help.
