Ok, I got it working earlier this afternoon. The FC3
system-config-display program they provide is crap, even after I
installed the updated RPM. Despite making any changes to the xorg.conf
file, it just sits there all dumb like it's going through the motions,
but never changes anything. So I actually deleted the xorg.conf file,
killed/restarted X, and let it figure out what the heck was going on
from scratch, and it worked. Looks like I was missing the "Screen 1"
option, as opposed to Screen 0, associated with the 2nd video driver
section of the xorg file. I pretty much copied this info into my MDK
10.0 XF86Config file, and it works there as
well.
Forumers,
I recently started thinking about running two monitors from my one AGP AVT Radeon 7000 card. The card has both VGA and a DVI outputs, and I figured it would be easy enough to add a 2nd monitor to this card and configure it. So I bought a DVI to VGA adaptor, and hooked an old CRT screen to the card. Upon starting X, I get the same display on the 2nd screen as I do my original screen. Ultimately, I would like to have two individual screens (2 instances of KDE or Gnome running), where I run my mouse from one to the other. I don't think this is what xinerama does, but I could be wrong. I dug around online, and came across a LOT of documentation on how to set up XF86Config to work with dual monitors, including putting in a new section for the 2nd monitor, a new section for Screen2, and messing around with the ServerLayout section of the file. However, after a LOT of trial and error, I'm no better off.
A couple of questions. Does the ATI Radeon 7000 support dual individual displays, or have I already wasted my time trying something that isn't even possible? Second, does the "radeon" driver suport dual displays, or should I be looking into upgrading to a driver from ATI's site? I heard rumblings about the "fglrx" driver, but didn't have any luck installing it.
I have had just as much difficulty in FC3 as I have in MDK 10.0 in getting this to work, which makes me think maybe it IS the card and not the OS?
Any help or ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Dan
