Dual monitor window-position settings

Mar 12, 2007 5:50AM PDT

Hi,

I have a MacBook and an external monitor. I've been using the external as a second monitor, and for the most part it works fine. I want to be able to have finer control over my window positions, however. Are there ways of doing any of the below?

1. For the most part, programs like my browser open in the second browser as I want them to. However, quite possibly because I switch between using my laptop with and without the external monitor, opening in the second monitor isn't consistant. Is there a way of setting it so that a program ALWAYS opens in the second monitor if one is connected, and not otherwise?

2. When using my browser, I often open up a second window. Is there any way to set things so that if my first window is in the external monitor, the second will open on my laptop?

3. Again using my browser (Firefox) in the external monitor, occasionally pull-down menus such as in the bookmarks toolbar open on the pimary monitor instead of the external. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

Thanks!
Sam

Me too

Points 1 and 2 don't bug me to much, but point three is driving me nuts.

I'm on a MacBook Pro, using Firefox 2.0.0.3

I seldom used FF in favor of a heavily tricked out Safari. I then started using FF and noticed this behavior pretty quickly. Maybe it was after an earlier update. Then when I updated to this current version the menus worked fine, until after a restart of the machine and they're doing it again.

It is unfortunate comfort to know I'm not alone.

I searched for this bug and could not find an open report about it.

Have you reported it? If not, it ain't gonna git fixed.
