Question

Dual monitor setup help

Jul 15, 2019 2:01PM PDT

need some help please! my GPU has 1 HDMI, 1 DVI, and 1 VGA port. i have 2 monitors, 1st having VGA and HDMI ports (which will be used for videos and music mainly). 2nd monitor has DisplayPort and HDMI (using for gaming).

i was thinking about running an HDMI splitter with both monitors to the GPU, the VGA will go in the VGA on the card, and finally a DP to DVI adapter to the GPU.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Splitters are used when

You want the same display on more than one display.

DVI in 4 out of 5 DVI types (read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface ) has the signals for HDMI so I would NOT BOTHER with anything other than HDMI for both displays and use a DVI to HDMI 2 buck adapter.

If you want to use VGA and forgo the adapter, why not?

Always your choice.

Here I avoid VGA since some video players will not play over the old insecure interface (why and more is on the web.)

Unless I read it wrong, no graphics card has DisplayPort so for this setup, I'd ignore it.
