Driving a second monitor will take more GPU and CPU attention so it can create all sorts of issues like you noted. The other thing is that drivers may update upsetting a working system.
The HDMI audio stream, well, again another way to cause audio stream issues. Try over VGA if you can.

I have a gaming MSI laptop with a Nvidia graphics card. I run a dual monitor setup (game on main, streamed sports game or internet on other screen). Ive never had too many problems with it until recently. The only thing i ever thought was funny was the fact that an Nvidia logo appears in my toolbar as well as a intel graphics logo, both of which are in my tray. I always wondered if the intel ran my Asus monitor and the nvidia ran my MSI laptop screen (not sure at all). Either way, this never really gave me much of a problem. Recently, I downloaded Ventrilo and it has acted very funny when I have 2 monitors going (ran in Admin mode). Whenever I unplugged the monitor, it acted much more normal. The monitors are connected via HDMI (sound may be causing errors in Vent). Well, all that said, last night vent was acting up again. No more than it has for the past 2 weeks; but all of a sudden, I turn on my game (star wars the old republic - MMO) and now (withOUT ventrilo running) it launches the game from the launcher in 800/600 resolution... Never has it done this before. When I hit resolution on my background, i change it back to the 1900/whatever (recommended, top), it wont even let me click into star wars game. It acts buggy like its not running (even though i can hear it) and I cant alt tab to it or anything. Anyone have any ideas on, A, how to fix my current issue of being able to play my game, and B, providing some direction as to long term relief of this mess..
