dual core compression software

Sep 27, 2006 2:55PM PDT

Hi,
I currently am running windows xp 32 bit with a core2duo. i was wondering if there was a 64 bit compression/encoding program that would utilize all of my processor. is that possible to do from a 32 bit environment? also is there a free program that would do nicely? something that would rip some of my dvds down to put on my psp, that kind of thing.....

There is a program which will utilize your dual cores, or

even multiple computers. It is Sony Vegas. It is decidedly not in the free category.

Did you try Virtual Dub?

It had some 64-bittiness for AMD. Maybe they updated that?

divx sounds good, but the codec is free. what freeware will use the divx codec? or will their software be the only solution.....

so i can use both together in my 32bit environment and my processor will use more than one core? resulting in faster conversions?

But I've done this. Test it and report back.

XP 32bit comes with both single core and dual core or dual CPU drivers.
When you install XP on a dual core it uses the dual core CPU driver, the dual core driver will use BOTH cores by dividing the tasks between the two cores.
The microcode in the processor handles the 32bit to 64bit part. John
