Dual boot windows 7 and linux

I just built my second pc core i7 processor. (very proud of it) I am thinking about having a dual boot with windows 7 and linux. I have to hard drives: 1tb sata on which 64bit windows 7 professional is installed and 251 gb ide with windows xp. Any help on how to accomplish that dream?

That was wonderful those informations. However, after I download the file to dvd (too large for cd), I wasn't able to boot from that dvd. I tried ubuntu-9.04 desktop-i386 Type: ISO File and I also tried ubuntu-10.04

BIOS Boot order?

Have you set the BIOS to boot from the DVD drive first?

That's uncommon. Most people download from Internet to their hard disk first, then burn to DVD.
Note: You have to use the "burn an iso" function of your burning program. Burning it as a data file doesn't make the dvd bootable.

Thank you so much for being so helpful! Now i have got everything to work wonderfully, my wireless adaptor from my laptop doesn't work after I installed ubuntu linux. Any idea please? Thanks in advance.
