Dual Boot and problem with high speed internet access

Jun 3, 2005 8:53AM PDT

I have just come to the high speed world of cable comcast.net, this is great except, under the old 56K modem I could access the internet when I was booted to my HD with 98SE or when booted to the HD with K2. Now I can only access the internet through the K2 boot were I was when I set up the high speed internet modem connection and then my Linksys router. Is it not possible to access from both boots when it's a high speed internet connection? If it is possible give me some clue as to what I might be missing. All the internet options seem to match and the protocols all seem to match. what am I missing that is preventing the connection when booted to 98SE? I have tried Comcast for help but they tell me it is a windows problem and they know nothing about dual booting. I have tried microsoft and they send me to comcast. Is anyone out there dual booted and accessing successfully from both? I do have a second computer on the router, it is dual booted also but with K2 and 95 and I have the same problem there, I can only access from K2 boot on it. SL

It's likely your Internet Connection settings....

are still set to a dial up. I would change this to "Never dial", then run the Connection wizard choosing to connect via the LAN.

Never dial ok

I checked the dial up and it was ok but since you seemed to say it should be possible, I just started looking for anything that might be left from AOL that had been removed found a couple small things but nothing that I precived would cause a problem. An old short cut that had nothing on the end some cookies that kind of thing. Doing that had no effect either. But afterwards it decided that it had a new hardware device and reinstalled the old 56 k modem. I couldn't figure out how to disable it in 98 like I did in k2 so I just took it out of the box. Wow now I have connections on both boots for that computer. Took a look at the other computer but still can not find the problem there. It's modem is long gone and so are all the AOL stuff and the dial up is fine, so I'm still stumped on that one ,but at least I know it should be possible now. Thanks for you suggestion.
