DTV PAL Technical Question

Sep 11, 2008 4:05AM PDT

How do I install the Dish Network DTV PAL digital convertor box?
I live in an apartment and I do not understand how to connect to the off-air antenna. Any help?

Where do you live? If you have PAL?

What Dish box do you have?
ON USA units the is an "F" connector that says "over the air antenna".
The book that comes with the unit should have this info. John

Wilmington, NC

I live in Wilmington, NC which went all digital on Monday, September 8th (the first market to do so). I see the connection for the cable on the box but I do not know where to run the cable. I have a cable outlet in a wall but is that for the antenna connection? I'm assuming that is where my problem is because when I search for channels my DTV PAL is unable to locate any.

Because PAL is NOT. . .

Sorry for the confusion. My question is in reference to the Dish Network (Echostar) digital converter box.

Oh, OK . . .

That (and all other) converter boxes will only work with an OTA (Over the Air) antenna. They will not work with cable TV.

Right, so...

I guess that is my noob question. How do I connect the digital box to the antenna if I live in an apartment complex?

The box will have . . .

Connections on the back. Two coax labeled in and out. You connect the in to the antenna. You have a choice of outputs, the out coax or the A/V (3 RCA connectors, yellow for video and red and white for audio). You connect one of these to the TV. If you use the coax out you put the TV on channel 3 and tune channels with the box. If you use the A/V you put the TV on A/V input and tune channels with the box. It's really pretty simple, the box comes with diagrams and pictures.

But, again, do you have an antenna or cable? Apartments have cable. Unless you put up your own antenna, or even rabbit ears, the above paragraph is useless. You MUST connect this box to an OTA antenna. It will NOT work with cable.

Setup
Sep 12, 2008 2:30AM PDT

This is the current setup (let me know if any flaws jump out):

I have one coax running from the converter box (OUT)
to the TV. The other coax is running from the converter box
(IN) to a cable outlet in the wall. Am I connected to the
apartment antenna or cable? If it's cable, how do I connect
to the antenna?

The TV is set on Channel 3. When I run the scan, it does not
find any channels.

Contact your landlord and ask about the wall connector.

If it's a cable outlet you don't need the converter box. John
