DTV Antenna & Cable questions - I'm confused!

Aug 28, 2008 11:34PM PDT

Okay, I'm trying to prepare for the DTV transition, but it's not easy. I've been doing lots of research, and I was planning on buying a winegard ss3000 indoor antenna, and the zenith dtt901 converter box (we have analog TV's now on rabbit ears). We live less than 20 miles from the stations in Atlanta GA, in a mild valley with no big buildings around, but there is an airport nearby.

My question is about the cable we need to connect 2 tv's to the antenna. I've been trying to figure out the difference between dual shield and quad shield RG-6 cable. Are they all copper? What is better? We would be running about 50' through an enclosed basement from the antenna to another tv. I can't find any discussion that tells me what to get in plain non-technical language. Can anybody help? -- Katie

Don't worry to much about the cable.

RG6 of any kind will do the job. If you are hooking up 2 TVs you will need a splitter. I use a good out door antenna and put it in my attic.
go to http://antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx there is a lot of good info there. John

and to (un-confuse or is that de-confuse, hehe) a little..hopefully;

Is it all copper? some are and some are not, so check the specifications.

Dual or quad? According to one site I visited, quad give you better video and audio performance (that what IT says). So if you want to pay a little extra then go with that. Good luck.

Thanks, that helps a bit. It's hard to figure out what to do if you're doing research on the net, because there is soooo much information out there, some of it contradictory.
