DSL speed drops during the day

Mar 31, 2005 4:45PM PST

I just got DSL its a 1.5 meg service early morning i get good speeds 1200+ down but during the day it drops sometimes down as low at 250 is this normal or does it indicate a problem with the telco. ISP and Qwest can not find any thing wrong with the line or setup Have been told by outside source that this is normal for DSL when the DSLAM get busy if so no better than cable.
DSL is new to my area so dont think the swith would be over loaded this soon.

One problem in situations like this
Apr 1, 2005 2:42AM PST

Not saying it is the case here, but ISPs (all of them)
have a bad habit. They add customers and don't add servers to handle them. When enough customers complain about the slow-down from clogged bandwidth, they add the servers. But usually not until that point. I've been through this before with other ISPs, so when I started getting a big drop-off recently even on my Linux side with no firewall, I knew what I was probably looking at. Called SBC/Yahoo. Of course, they run a check between your computer and the substation and find a good connection. The senior tech and I had a good laugh and submitted a report basically saying Yahoo was an *&^^%, and the customer refused a service call. Within a few days, my Linux speed was back up to 1100-1200 kps.

DSL speed / ISP
Apr 1, 2005 8:37AM PST

I am using a locl ISP and had thier wireless service with no problem changed to DSL due to cost and maybe more speed I am thinking the local Qwest switch is over loaded as I am in an area that is /was under served for broadband service.

Like I said

No guarantee, but a very good bet. What I did was call my ISP and demand what I am paying for. Expect a run around.
Go up the line till you get a knowledgeable tech. Won't
get fixed then, but count the days till the speed suddenly increases. Good luck. chuck
