DSL Setup is not easy

Mar 16, 2007 11:40PM PDT

I went to assist someone with hooking up their new DSL service. The person who hooked up the line outside said that it was really easy and that she could do it. I can only say that she would not have been able to do it herself. I have a bachelor degree in CIS and my A+ Certification, and it was very difficult to follow. I have hooked up other people with Comcast High Speed Internet, hooked up three wireless networks and all together it took less time than the DSL hookup. I followed the onscreen instructions perfectly, but that did not help when it was complete. She wanted to have Yahoo.com as her default E-mail address which was setup when her daughter called to order the service. They told her it would be her default E-mail address. After setup, the default E-mail address was sbcglobal.net. There was not an option to change the default E-mail address after signing into AT&T Yahoo. The online tech support was really no help either. The issue has yet to be resolved. Also after hooking up all lines correctly, we had to call the 800 number to get assistance because the message on the screen said that we were not hooked up to high speed Internet. Come to find out that the filter was bad that had the two connections. So for any one wanting high speed Internet service, do not go with AT&T Yahoo DSL service.

DSL is pretty easy to setup, but

sometimes the ISP's help line isn't. For AT&T dsl help, I would check here http://www.dslreports.com/forums/58
Find your AT&T area, check the FAQ's where you might find the answer to your problem. If not, ask, as some of AT&T's best techs who post there, should be able to help. I have had SBC/ATT for years without problems.

I couldn't fix this either. Here's why.

You never revealed which email client software you used.

While you will get the sbcglobal.net email address since it's part of the service, to change to yahoo.com I'd have to know which email software you are using and check if you have the right email account type at yahoo.

Sadly this has nothing to do with dsl or their support but more about minor details.

sbcglobal.net and Yahoo

if you had a yahoo email setup on your system and during install you said to combine the 2 - when you go to the mail - and compose a message you can click on a box to change the email address that you want to send this from - I have had this for over 2 months as of today and have not had any problems - and support - wheather live or phone have been very helpful.
