But unless we change out the modem we can't be sure it's not the modem. I can see why some might think "it can't be that" but how else to test this other than a swap? We also have learned of failing DSL filters that can be temperature sensitive and behaving on a timed schedule. There can be dew in the hours you note and causing a failed line.
Your ISP is not the owner of the lines so they won't send a crew out to check.
Keep an open mind and do what they ask to get past their item list and hurry along to the real fix. Telling them "no that's not it" only slows down their process.

We have an Earthlink DSL modem. For several years, it has worked great. However, for the past few months, it has followed this pattern: During the morning hours, typically starting anywhere between 5 and 7 AM and ending between 1 and 3 PM, the modem rarely has good connectivity. The SYNC light is typically flashing yellow (no connection) for a minute or two, then will change to green for a few seconds, then back to yellow flashing for a minute or two, then green for a few seconds, etc., etc.
Then around 1 to 3 PM and up until the next morning, the connection is great. Rarely do I ever see a flashing yellow SYNC light.
The problem is that we typically need to get online in the morning for work purposes.
I have called Earthlink tech support which has been less than helpful. They typically want to shut down the anti-virus, firewall, reset the modem, move it around, etc., while completely ignoring the fact that the modem works GREAT at night...and we don't typically change computer settings or set up at 3:00 PM and 6:00 AM.
Does anybody have any idea what would cause this? I do not believe it is a problem with my computer or modem (or else I would see the problem all the time). Nor do I believe the problem is something in the house (like a halogen light bulb or radio) since nothing is there in the morning that is not there at night.
Any idea would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
