DSL Service

Sep 27, 2007 4:29AM PDT

I have SBC(AT&T) DSL service but had severe, drop out of service, problems because I'm at the limit of wire length to the server. They lowered my connection speed which helped but it still drops out occasionally and the lower speed sucks. I've considered going to satellite but have been told it drops out with rain. Any suggestions? I'm in the northeast section of Illinois.

Check for commercial IP service provides. TI and commercial will cost you. I'm on the edge of the service area as well but fortunately no problems. They were surprised it worked at all. Call them back, at least here, there service has been great, especially the techs that have shown up on site. Better then all the rest. Check with the business forum on Cnet as well.

Do you still have the DSL?

If so, do you connect using a wireless router?

If so, did you try

updating the firmware in the wireles router
Broadcast SSID
use WPA Personal security

What kind on connection and speed do you have now?

DSL dropout
Sep 29, 2007 1:49AM PDT

Yes, I still have DSL. Upload speed is now 289 KBPS & download is 329 KBPS. Before they reduced the speed the DSL light on the modem would turn from green to flashing red when service was lost. Even when it went back to green, I still could not connect. This happened mainly in the evening. I have one computer connected directly to the modem and another through wireless.

Call customer support. They are very helpful most of the time. Do you have the self support tool.? Down load it from there site. It has diagnostics in it. Your connection is very slow for DSL. What type of ethernet adapter do you have? It has diagnostics in it, run them.
