Question

DSL Internet connection keeps dropping

Aug 16, 2017 8:51PM PDT

Alright, so I have a DSL connection through a local ISP called "CimTel".
They are a very terrible ISP that basically won't do anything good for their customers.
I've had people come out, replace stuff, test stuff, and say the issues are our fault.
The issue that I am having is my internet drops out completely, as in the modems' DSL connection completely turn off, then comes back on about 3 minutes later.
The issue starts around 9:00 p.m., and constantly comes on and off till around 7:00 a.m.
It's EVERY night. No matter what we do, it happens no matter what. We have reset the modem, reactivated it, switched all the cables, switched the modem, and have done the most we know how to do to try and fix it.

Modem: Netgear NIGHTHAWK R7000

Please don't ask me about the things connected to the modem, because that's irrelevant. We have disconnected everything and watched the modem, just to see what happens, and it still disconnects.
So if anyone knows what to do, or if you've had a similar issue, please help.

(P.S. we are unable to switch our ISP due to them having a complete monopolization over the area. We have tried to get AT$T UVerse, but its impossible. There's nothing we can do about that.)

(NT) ROUTER LISTED IS WRONG. CORRECT ONE IS D7000

That's better

The new unit is a modem/router combo.

As a test during this time period go around and unplug all phone devices from other outlets.

All you want is the modem/router direct to the phone outlet on the wall.....no dsl filter.

NIGHTHAWK R7000

If I'm looking at the proper unit that's not a modem/router it's a router only.

If that's true look at your modem does it also drop the internet?

Well, we have the internet coming from the phone line, which has no phone connected to it, which supplies our internet.
If you look at the unit, it has a Globe Symbol, which represents ability to connect to internet. Also, to the right, there is a symbol that has two lines crossing each other.
When the internet goes off, the two lines turn off, then the globe light turns off.
Connection to the internet, even plugged directly into the modem, is dropped. Says no internet access.
You also aren't able to go into the server box settings.

Phone line

Your phone socket is on the wall.
You have a phone cable which is connected to the socket on one end.
What does the other end of this cable connect to?
I don't see how you can connect the phone cable to the R7000.

If you look at the back of the R7000 box, it has a DSL cable input.
Which is what the phone line uses.

R7000

If I look at the back of that unit I see a wan port.

I don't see a port for a phone cable.

Which seems to say your phone line connects to a modem and the modem connects to the r7000.

Are you saying the phone line connects direct to the r7000?

Yes, the line connects directly to the R7000 modem. It might not be a phone line, all I know is that we plug it in right there. There is two sockets in the wall, one of which doesnt work for internet, and the other one does.

Since I can't ask this or that.

I have to bow out. I can't guess why you don't want members to ask questions, and you don't have to tell.

DSL customers tend to complain a lot about lousy service and most of the time it's nothing we can fix. The ISP has to fix it even if it's the wiring from the telephone company.
