Dsl Installation

Oct 14, 2008 11:11AM PDT

Windows Xp
Ubuntu Gutsy
Dell XPS 600
Dsl Modem 2wire model 2701hg 4 port w/firewall

Recently installed DSL to XPS 600 computer and now want to hookup Dell l800r computer.

2wire modem instructions show that all I need is 10/100 ethernet card and DSL cable

Scanning the cnet forums I find lots of talk about a router ahead of the modems.

Is this modem also a router? And do I need anything else to hook up the second computer?

Thanks
Ray

Thanks for the reply.

One more question about the ethernet card.

I need a pci card have found that Belkin and D link have pci cards

Which vendor would you recommend for the easiest install and startup.

I use the 4 buck cards from Fry's. I don't consider any Windows install to be easy enough today. That is, they need to make it better. Something easier than making toast.
