Hi --
I use Earthlink and am going to have a 2nd computer installed on a separate, dedicated phone line. Seems to me I would not need a filter on that line, single or dual, and can connect directly into the new line's jack - is that right?

Thanks. Bob.
While I have you, another question: (we'll eventually go wireless but right now are wired) doesn't wired home networking, as good as it sounds, require wires/cables from computers in other rooms to be long enough to be connected to wherever the router et.al. is? (Do people have the wires and cables just laying across floors or do they tack them or get electricians in?)
I may be being naive here --
on top either, hehe. There are no set rule. You decide how nice you want the room to look. Have fun.
....into and across the attic, drop down wall in the other room, (unless full firestops in wall) cut small hole in bottom of wall and fish around for the wire, put wired CAT5 external connection box on and glued to wall, (liquid nail works great), unless you were lucky enough to be near a stud and can screw a recessed box & LAN connect cover onto that.
Wireless works great for most and if you need stronger signal, this is what we use for not too much money.
