DSL filter problem.

Jul 28, 2007 6:02PM PDT

I have a really weird DSL filter problem. I have SBC DSL for almost two years and I just started to have this problem two days ago. The problem is : whenever the DSL filter is connected to the jack (no matter in the living room, kitchen or bedrooms), all my phones stop working. I could not dial out and no incoming call is possible. My DSL/internet is still working fine. I did a quick test with unplugging the DSL filter in the living room. Then all my phones worked again. I replaced that DSL filter and installed another one, then the phones were ok for a while (maybe couple hours). However, in couple hours it is back to the original situation. It is really frustrating! I still have another (the last) new DSL filter. I am kind of afraid that the jack might somehow damage my filter. Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

it should be no

I don't quite understand what you meant. But it should be no. I rent an apartment and we have only two phones. One very basic traditional one in the bedroom and one cordless one in the living room. Mine is Z-BLOCKER® In-Line Twin-Jack Filter Z-330P2J. http://www.excelsus-tech.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=installationGuides.inLineTwin
So in the living room I plugged the existing phone cord into the jack marked PHONE on the filter and I plugged the DSL cable into the DSL jack on the filter. Nothing else is connected.

Loose connections?

This is where I go and check the junction box. You might have to call it in.

Where to call?

Where is junction box usually installed? I might call SBC (at&t) to request the help.
However, my phone line is ok without the filter.
My DSL itself is working fine no matter what it is doing to the phones. Should I call the "regular phone line" department or "DSL" department?

So go with what works?

Beats calling it in. As to your junction box I can't tell you where. Usually where they connect your home with the outside world.

If it works without, why not do that?

I do need the DSL filter

Oh..I meant my phone is working only when there is no filter installed in my apartment. However, the quality is really bad. So..I still need to put the DSL filter back on the jack.
