Dropping Wireless Connection

May 29, 2004 12:03PM PDT

i have a Dell Laptop 600m, i connect to the net via a Belkin Wireless Router.

my problem is that the wireless connection keeps dropping every now and then. there is no specific software which causes this drop.

everytime it drops windows shows me two other networks found neadby.

i am using WEP on my router. how do i prevent it from dropping my default connection and searching for other newtorks.

or is there any way i can tell windows to ignore any new wireless network found and stick to the default.

thanks.

You'll have to try another RF channel and move the WAP closer to the laptop.

It does not matter how close i am to the WAP
I normally am in the same room but it yet drops and comes back showing new network connections.

Have another computer on the same network(using a D-link card) which has no problems.

My computer works on a d-link 604 wireless network without dropping the connection.

How would I go about changing the RF channel if I need to?

Thanks.

Then...

1. Get another Dlink card.
2. Changing the RF channel was in the manual. Look there, my instructions could be wrong on how.

Just so you know, the feature you are asking for may occur "in the future." It's becoming apparent Wifi is a victum of success.

I have the same problem and it's very frustrating. Did you try the solution he recommeneded? Is there anything you can do in the software to prevent looking for other wireless networks? I'm not that tech-savvy, and if there's an easier, software based solution, that would be ideal so I don't have to do anything too involved....
