I'd drop the data rate down a few notches and see if it improves. Just FYI, I have a Dlink card (forget the exact number) and it's not very good either. A cheaper card worked better.
In closing, I had to update firmware all around and drivers to get it to work its best.
Did you move the WAP to the floor to get closer to your machine?

Hi,
I bought a Gigafast PCMCIA wireless card for use with my laptop. More often than not, when I use my laptop downstairs I don't always get an excellent connection. It's always very good and often the signal is dropped. My wired desktop and 802.11b router is upstairs
The dropped signals are annoying more than anything, since I can just refresh and hope to catch a better connection. But can anyone suggest a fix ?
Is it better to just buy a new wireless card ? Buy a new router ? Buy a signal enhancer ? Go with 802.11g
The last one I'm not sure about. From what I gather 802.11g won't expand the signal range (I'm also limited by my DSL connection in that my service is capped. I'm only getting 340kbs up and down)
Thanks
Richard
