Dropped laptop doesnt turn on anymore.

Jan 23, 2005 11:43PM PST

My friend dropped her laptop and now it wont even turn on. She said once she dropped it, it turned off and now wont turn on again. I opened it up but didnt see anything wrong with it, or anything that came loose of fell of the board. I had it pluged in for like 2 days and still nothing. Im pretty sure its not getting power because the battery doesnt even get warm when plugged in. What do i need to check for, and whats common problems that happen to dropped laptops? Its a gateway 400vtx. Thanks

The usual..

A crack in some circuit board, a chip that is disconnected. Finding it far exceeds the cost of the machine at times. Best hope? Extract the hard disk and get what they can't lose off the drive.

Lesson? Don't drop it.

We'd be glad to look at it and if its not economical to repair we will not charge you. Theres always a chance it may be somthing simple as well.(RAM slightly jarred/dislodged) But as M stated a cracked circuit board could mean replacement.. (The boards are 3-5 traces stacked top to bottom with an insulating barrier between each) If it is cracked in a "hard spot" Its parts.. (The board that is).. We'll try though.. Ken
