I'd replace the drive. I did this on my Acer and went from a 4X CDRW to a 24X CDRW and DVD...
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=PA3246U-1DVD is interesting, I find that I can steal the drive and put such in a laptop. http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=NW930-WB-N&cat=DVD had the Toshiba label on the white box and ... installed in my Acer just fine. You decide if you want to try.

Hi there,
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that I dropped. It works fine, except for the CD-RW/DVD drive. Sometimes it doesn't open, and it never plays a cd or dvd. When I try to play something, I get the following error:
d:/ refers to a location that is unavailable....etc etc...
Anyway, I'm sure that its something that must be fixed professionally, because when I go to the Device Manager, the drive doesn't even exist anymore. Does anyone know how much something like this would cost? I bought my laptop September 2002 if that helps at all....
Thanks,
Jen
