1. Do NOT format this hard drive as the computer suggests, since the formatting process may make things worse.
2. Do NOT attempt to write anything new on this hard drive in case of any data loss.
3. Apply an external hard drive data recovery tool to check whether our drive data is recoverable. As I know, the dropped drive often can be damaged logically or physically. The physically dropped drive is often difficult to repair and inner data is also irrecoverable. But, if your drive is only logically damaged, you may directly get back your data with the help of a data recovery process.
So, in this moment, you'd better choose a proper data recovery tool for your drive. But, if you also cannot make your own decision anyhow, some external hard drive data recovery freeware, which often can thoroughly scan a storage media and get back all needed data as much as possible, can be your choices, such as Recuva, TestDisk, Power Data Recovery and iCare Data Recovery Free, etc.
4. Save and back up all your restored data on a different memory card or hard drive in case of data recovery failure.
5. After the data recovery process, simply format this drive to see whether it can work functionally as before.
In the future, you should learn a lesson to be more careful about your data and always back it up well.
I have an external hard drive from a previous laptop. Earlier of this morning, after attaching this drive to my computer, it fell to the ground and became really strange. When I plunged it to my computer, it started to continuously pop out a message saying "The drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" Now, all my contained data also becomes inaccessible. So, I was wondering whether there are some useful utilities that can help me get back the inner contained data before the formatting. It is really a nightmare for me to lose all the saved data!
Do you have any idea? Can this be done? What can you suggest?
