General discussion

dropped airport

I have just purchased my Mac pro. I was given an Airlink101 / AR430W router,
I know it is about three years old.
My problem is I can be on the net when I notice I have lost contact.
Some times the page just sits and stares back at me ! I have to close the lid wait 4 or 5 seconds and re boot the internet wi-fi link at air-port.
I read this is nothing new That it happens often My question is Is my router too small
or perhaps too old for this newer Mac. The router is upstairs and I'm about 10 feet through the ceiling to the router, so I'm not all that far away.
I can't see in the directions how to change the band or channels
Should I purchase a newer Router?

I would go with a newer, 802.11N, wireless router, given the relatively low price of such a device.

I just talked to an Apple rep. and he said most all new n routers are good
but sense I only have a Mac Pro why not just buy the Airport Express $99.00
Made for Mac's. In the long run I guess he's got a point.

Thanks everyone
tomorrow I will buy a new router.

The Airport Express, while in your price range,

is only capable of wireless and lacks the capacity to connect any wired devices, a network printer for instance.

Just a thought
