Resolved Question

Drop in WEI after new Mobo

Oct 16, 2014 3:14AM PDT

I was running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on Gigabyte GA-MA785GPMT-UD2H (Socket M2) mobo and was getting a 7.6 score on my recently purchased Seagate ST1000DM 003-1ER162 SATA Disk Device (SATA).

Upgraded my system 2 weeks ago with Gigabyte 970A-UD3P (CPU 1) mobo and score is now 5.9

Any ideas on how to bring this score up?

Thanks in advance -
Terry Davidson

I see some chatter about that.

Some think it's AHCI or not, others note BIOS, and more talk about BIOS, drivers and the Intel app.

Then again, there are folk that try to transplant in another motherboard without all the OS install, and long slog (slugfest?) with drivers and APPS!!!! that I begin to think Windows is indeed on its last days.

Thanks, Bob

I have played around in the BIOS, did some searching for driver updates at Gigabyte
and sent this issue to them also - have yet to hear back. When I installed the HDD originally on my previous mobo, I had the same problem - then Windows updated and the WEI improved from 5.9 to 7.6 (I have a screenshot that shows this) so I'm leaning towards this being a BIOS/AMD issue of some kind.

This isn't a new build - just a hardware upgrade. The OS was already in place. I uninstalled the drive a couple of times in an attempt see if Windows was the issue, but no joy.

I have a set of updated SATA drivers from Gigabyte dated later than the board's install disk, but can't install them because they need to be installed prior to OS installation - unless you have a work around for that...

So it was some transplant. Sorry but that's been a bugaboo for years. As in, YMMV, coin flips and more.

you can't...

.. WEI on ordinary (single) HDDs is 5.9 (fixed) in Windows - your 7.6 score was a "glitch" apparently. MS does not allow a non-raid HDD to exceed 5.9 ... end of story Happy

Thank you for that.

Gigabyte response was that OS be re-installed. If/when I do this I'll let you know how it turns out.
