Drop down menu fix

Feb 6, 2009 12:03AM PST

Help ! This is driving me nuts. Whenever I have a screen that has drop down menues (ie: country of origin,or security question,,etc.), the box appears but is all blank/white. I can click on the blue bar and take a guess at the choice----ie: USA. However, the choice guess has to be obvious . This problem does not allow me to use many web pages/systems.

I am only 'so-so' on my PC troubleshooting skills. System: Windows XP/HP desk top about two years old/DSL . Tried restore,,etc.

Please advise.

Jack

Try another browser.

If you use IE now, try Firefox. And the other way around, of course. One of them should work, even if the other is compromised or corrupted.

How about drop downs in Excel (if you know how to make one, it's not really common knowledge)? Do they work?

Firefox issue
Feb 10, 2009 12:39AM PST

Kees,
thank you for your advice. My PC literate son suggested the same. However, my efforts are related to my Other PC problem. I successfully load the new Firefox app and the icon is visible. When I click to load, I get a box: " firefox.exe-Bad Image
The application or DLL C:\Windows\system32\USP.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your install diskett."

I,also, get the same box with Safari. So, I am stuck. Trying to load the app that could get me the 'drop down' fix is not available.

This is a bad situation for me, because I cannot us drop down menues with various pages. For Travelvolocity, for instance, I cannot put in my travel plans. I have to call their 1-800 number. I have to call Wall Street Journal to get the online service, because I could not put in my zip. note: sometimes I can guess what the choices are in the blank box--- ie: type in 'Minnesota'--- and when I submit the input page , it works.
