DRMzzzzzzzzzzzzz

by MacHugger / January 23, 2006 4:15 PM PST

You know I love you guys (even though I STILL haven't received my BOL t-shirt) but I hate to say it... I'm in DRM overload with the BOL podcast. The 1/23/06 episode spent 20.5 out of 32.5 minutes on it.

I know it's probably important, even though I have a feeling market pressure will eventually correct all these things, but... it's like... being concerned about the rainforest. I CARE and do what I can (like eat Ben and Jerry's ice cream) but I just get tired of hearing that a trillion acres a minute go up in smoke. Kinda there with the DRM thing, now.

Maybe it's just 'cuz Molly wasn't there today. No offense V and T but nobody can b*tch about DRM quite like Molly (please interpret this as the twisted compliment that it is, M).

Sorry. 13 hour work day. That prolly has more to do with it. Just wanted to come home to a glass of Port and some dark chocolate, listen to BOL and unwind. But there was DRM... again... and again... Sad

I agree. Its one thing to talk about DRM stuff when the story is huge and impacting. But please spare us the rants each day on it. If I wanted to listen to DRM issues all day long, I'm sure I could find a podcast on the RIAA or MPAA sites to help. They keep agreeing that DRM is a reality that won't go away...so then I suggest we all get over it and move onto something new. I'm not even bothering to download today's podcast because even the title has indicated another 20 minute rant on DRM. Come on guys, let's move on.

Gun shy

I don't want M, T and V to become gun shy about reporting DRM stuff, just no so much of it.

What Sony did was stupid and it was fun harshing on them for a while because they reacted so badly at first.

But honestly, it is a fair debate and needs to be talked about occasionally. Perhaps BOL should try and interview somebody from the RIAA or a studio just so we could hear if they are as clueless as they are always accused or h*ll, maybe after the interview we might actually begin to understand THEIR side of it. They provide content and with new digital delivery formats of seriously high quality stuff, they have a genuine concern. But again, I think the market will help correct Sony-type errors.

In the meantime, just wanting less focus on it per BOL episode. I think part of the problem is that it seems like it's on EVERY podcast out there right now (TwiT fo example) and I'm on overload.

DRM Is Evil

One of the reasons DRM is discussed so often is that it keeps creeping into techonology on a daily basis. If media companies were not obsessed about total control of their content, then DRM would not be an issue.
