Drives not working after installing Windows Vista Home Basic

Feb 9, 2007 1:04AM PST

After installing Windows Vista Home Basic my CD Rom and DVD Writer will not read data discs.

I can listen to and burn music discs but if I try to install software or read data discs the system stops responding and freezes.

My drives are: JLMS XJ-HD166S and LITE-ON DVDRW LDW-411S.

I have looked for new drivers but there are none available. I have also tried restoring windows to an earlier date but with no result.

Can anyone help? Please!

You need to search the web for updated drivers compatible with Vista. Your original drivers may not be Vista compatible. Only other choice is to change your hardware to one that is Vista compatible. Or wait until upgraded drivers are available.

I have now solved my problem with my DVD?RW drives. I visited Microsoft.com and followed the instructions on document Q314060. Everything is up and running again. It seems it was a registry problem and very easy to sort.

Try it if your having the same problems.
