Drives d and e missing

by Sandra / April 23, 2004 5:01 AM PDT

Hello I am tehno illiterate. I have an IBM Pentell III. Recently my d and e drives have disappeared. When I go into My computers, the drives are no longer listed. When I put in a c.d. - nothing happens. I would appreciate any troubleshooting suggestions in plan language. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Are both the D and E drives CD drives?

It is pretty common for CD drives to die and when one does it frequently results in the other one not showing up. What you can try is unplugging one of them and seeing if the other works. You may have to re-jumper the second drive to get this to work however, and that may be beyond your capability.

There is also a known problem where uninstalling EZ CD Creator from a system can result in the CD drives disappearing due to a problem with the registry. Did you uninstall any software?

Thank you very much for responding. I am sorry I did not receive your message sooner but was out of town. Yes, I did uninstall Easy CD Creator. I was having problems with it not copying properly. I was also given an updated version from a friend and installed it. This created other problems with my computer so I uninstalled it as well. Any ideas on what I can do now to regain these drives? Again, thank you for taking the time to respond. Sandra.

Meet the drop-resistant Moto Z2 Force

The Moto Z2 Force is really thin, with a fast processor and great battery life. It can survive drops without shattering.
