Drivers for gateway fx7026

Jun 17, 2010 1:17AM PDT

I just installed windows 7 on my gateway fx7026 only to find out from gateway that they dont have any drivers for my desktop. I am now having some problems and dont want to pay $130 dollars for a tech from gateway to tell me that I shouldnt have switched OS systems. First I tried installing a new driver for my Nvidia geforce 8800 gt graphics card. When I do that the computer freezes up on restart everytime and there is no support # for Nvidia. Next I cannot find drivers for my MASS STORAGE CONTROLLER of my PCI SIMPLE COMMUNICATION CONTROLLER. Can anyone please help. I really dont want to deal with gateway.

Do you really need that dial up modem?

PCI SIMPLE COM = modem.

But the Nvidia is not the maker of the Mass Storage item. Did you research what chipset?

Did you discover that other item about the Intel Storage Manager?

You didn't tell what work you've done so far.

PS.

I didn't go looking for drivers for you. Here's why. You wrote Windows 7 but didn't reveal 32 or 64 bit. I can only hope you went 64 bit since I've seen a few lockups on similar gear with the 32 bit version. It's all technical why so I don't want to duplicate that again.

I am using windows 7 64 bit sorry. Here is what I have tried.
Contacted microsoft who ran me through some basic checks and told me I need to contact gateway about drivers. gateway said there were no drivers for my PC yet but I could talk to one of there Pay for talk experts. In the mean time in order to get windows to boot up I have to go into safe mode and disable my nvidia card. When I do that windows opens properly. When I reenable it it works fine until it tries to go to screen saver then it freezes. Installing the new driver does the same. I am a little computer literate but Im not sure what the mass storage device is or what you mean by chipset. Thanks

Two things.

On another post I'll write what I found for drivers for:

1. The chipset.
2. Intel Storage.
3. Nvidia.

HOWEVER you did not answer my question about the dial up modem. That driver is notoriously hard to find. And impossible given the makers toss many models into these machines. Remove the dial up model and place it into that box you keep the machine's documentation in.

AND if the machine has ISSUES no driver will fix that. The 8800 can be years old and in need of a cleaning, a pull of the heat sink and fresh heat sink compound. I find many owners never care for the machines. Watch the video at http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-11319_7-6240575-1.html

Be back soon.

I took care of the PCi. THanks. I will also watch the video this weekend and clean it up. I downloaded Nvidia driver 257.21_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_english_whq but when I install it and teh computer restarts it freezes after the Windows boot up screen.

That freeze is a sign.

Not a good one. Try another video card.

As we are done here, try older drivers if you have no other card.

PS. Worth noting. Another person showed up with same problems. They were using a "Windows Activator."
